Natures Monument!

While visiting The Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center and walking the grounds I saw this wonderful old tree. This tree is around 300 years old.

There are not too many of these old giants left in Ohio. I hope, that future generations of Americans will come to expect and help more trees to acheive the grand design created by God.

Day Trip

Living in Northwest Ohio we are surrounded with abundant history and events that help shape America. One such location is the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center located in Fremont Ohio. It is an easy 1 hour drive from the Toledo OH area and well worth the visit. The Hayes Presidential Center includes the home, library, museum, tomb, and 25-acre park-like estate (called Spiegel Grove) of the 19th U.S. President Rutherford B. Hayes. Entrance to the property is through the original gates from the White House. It was very relaxing walking the grounds and very somber at the Presidents tomb. Lucy, his wife is entombed with the President.

Their home called Spiegel Grove is a treasure waiting to be explored.

The museum is filled with personal mementos of the President and his wife Lucy. As well as a vast amount of Civil War Documents and an outstanding collection of Southwest Native American Baskets, Accoma Pottery and many other Indian mementos he acquired during his presidency.
The whole experience was very pleasant and I would recommend that everyone visit the Hayes Presidential Center to experience some Presidential history.

Little Known Fact

Today I was engaged in a conservation about property lines and state boundaries in NW Ohio. To stimulate conservation I related a little know fact that all property and boundary lines north of Defiance Ohio to Canada are measured off the baseline of the flagstaff located at Fort Defiance. Fort Defiance was built by General Anthony Wayne in August 1794 at the confluence of the Auglaize and Maumee Rivers and played an important role securing lands for a growing nation. Two hundred years later actions taken by our ancestors are affecting everyday life from state boundries, county lines, townships, personal property in NW Ohio to the taxes we pay all because of a flagstaff located at Fort Defiance, Defiance Ohio.
